Summer Readiness Tips for Parents to Keep Learning Going Over the Summer

As summer approaches at Pelican Point Preschool, families are looking forward to sunshine, splash pads, and a slower pace. But even in the summer, learning never stops—our little ones keep growing through playful discovery, curiosity, and fun-filled adventures every day.

Here are some easy, no-stress ways to help your preschooler stay sharp and curious all summer long:

Make Reading a Routine

Create a cozy reading corner at home or take books to the porch, park, or poolside. Let your child choose stories that spark their imagination!

Explore the Outdoors

Nature is the best classroom! Go on a backyard bug hunt, collect leaves, or set up a water table. Ask questions like “What do you think will happen if…?” to spark critical thinking.

Get Crafty with What You Have

Use household items for creative play—paper towel rolls become binoculars, cardboard boxes turn into rocket ships. Give your child a challenge: “Can you build something that floats?”

Practice Everyday Math & Language

Let your child help count items at the grocery store, sort snacks by shape or color, or “write” their own menus for lunch. Learning happens everywhere!

Summer doesn’t need to be filled with worksheets or structured lessons—just a little intention and a lot of fun can keep your child growing and glowing until fall!

We look forward to hearing from you!
